Career Opportunities in Human Resources and Industrial Relations

Since the program was established in 1976, almost 500 alumni have established the reputation of the MIRHR (formerly MIR) and the Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources across Canada, and all over the world. The majority of graduates work in human resources management or labour relations in the private sector. The rest are employed in the public sector, the labour movement, consulting or non-university teaching.

MIRHR graduates acquire advanced human resources management skills to:

  • plan and develop human resource strategies to achieve corporate objectives
  • develop high-performance compensation and incentive systems
  • design new work organizations and manage organizational change
  • plan, implement and evaluate workplace intiatives
  • analyze quantitative information to make effective business decisions
  • interpret and administer employment contracts

MIRHR graduates acquire essential labour relations skills to:

  • apply labour legislation and policy
  • negotiate collective agreements and manage the grievance process
  • facilitate alternative dispute resolution
  • interpret and administer employment contracts
