Career Services and Resources

One of the priorities of the Centre is to provide MIRHR students with the best resources to assist them in finding great jobs. We do this by providing:

Career Information and Education

Employer presentations, alumni workshops, and an annual “Careers Day” provides an opportunity for students to learn about the value of the MIRHR degree in the job market, and presents practical tips on developing networking skills and maximizing job search strategies. Students also learn about the growth areas and issues facing today’s HR professional.

The Centre's Library helps students to do the research that is so important in preparing for job interviews. Information is available about developments in the profession, salary levels for HR/IR professionals, and about specific companies, industries or unions.

The U of T Career Centre operates an Extern Program in mid-February and mid-May where students can explore various career paths by job shadowing a human resources or labour relations practitioner.

Networking Opportunities

The Centre's network in the Toronto HR/IR community benefits our students. In addition to alumni and other events sponsored by the Centre, MIRHR students can and attend conferences presented by Lancaster House. Toronto is also the home of other professional organizations such as HRPAO (Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario), World at Work, and IHRIM (International Association for Human Resources Information Management).

Job Search Skills Training

Workshops on job search skills are offered by the Centre and by the student association (ASIR). These workshops cover such topics as resume design, on-line job searches, and interview skills and are in addition to the numerous workshops and clinics that are offered by the U of T's Career Centre to students and recent graduates.

Job Postings

The Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources provides an Electronic Job Board service for current students and alumni. Students will find information on full-time, part-time, and summer job opportunities at the site. Summer work opportunities are also available through the Co-op in Employment Relations that is administered by Co-op Program in Management at the University of Toronto at Scarborough. Working in partnership with its students, the Centre is committed to promoting MIRHR students through the On-line Resume Program and supporting advertising and other marketing initiatives.
