Degree Requirements:

Students are admitted under the general regulations of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Toronto.

Information about international degree equivalencies is available from the School of Graduate Studies.
  • A 4-year University of Toronto Bachelor's Degree, or its equivalent, from a recognized university.
  • Completion of a CEGEP program prior to a Quebec Bachelor's (3-year) degree is equivalent to a 4-year program.
  • Applicants to the 12-month MIRHR Program Advanced Standing option require the above plus the degree major or specialization must be in one of the following areas: employment relations;
    industrial relations;
    labour studies;
    or administration or commerce with a major in human resources.
  • Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources Degree from the University of Toronto, or its equivalent.
  • Others may require a preparatory year of coursework from the MIRHR program.
  • In very exceptional circumstances, students with a Hon. B.A. Degree in Industrial Relations may apply if they have outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated quantitative skills and research ability.

Academic Achievement:

Minimum academic standing required is B+ (77%)
  • Minimum requirement is a B+ (77%) in each of the final two years of Bachelor's Degree.
  • B+ or equivalent standing in the previous Master's program

Recommended Courses:

 

  • Applicants to the 12-month MIRHR Program must have a degree major as specified above and the following courses:
    human resources, labour relations, statistics and organizational behaviour.
  • Applicants to the 2-year MIRHR program do not require specific courses.
  • Statistics
  • Research Methods
  • Other courses that may be relevant to the applicant's area of interest.
  • The admissions committee considers academic performance in recommended courses.

GRE or GMAT Test RESULTS:

Overall test performance will be considered by the admissions committee.

Scores more than 5 years old are not normally considered.

GMAT Information:

 

  • Applicants who completed their degrees at Canadian universities do not require test scores.
  • Applicants who completed their degrees outside of Canada are required to submit results from the GRE (General Test only) or GMAT. (see PhD column for codes)
  • There is no minimum score requirement.
  • Scores must be received by March 1
  • All PhD applicants are required to submit GRE or GMAT scores.
  • There is no minimum score requirement.
  • Scores must be received by February 1.

English Language Proficiency:

Required for some international students when primary language and language of instruction and examination were not in English.
  • TOEFL is most common test taken. See http://www.toefl.org
  • Minimum TOEFL is 600 (paper) plus 5.0 TWE or 100 (iBT/Internet) plus 22/30 for both Writing and Speaking sections.
  • To report your score use 0982 for the university code, and 87 for the department code.
  • Information on other English Language Testing Services is available from the School of Graduate Studies.

Professional Experience:

  • Related professional experience in the labour relations or human resources fields is considered.
General Information:
  • Enrolment capacity is limited. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
  • The Centre reserves the right to select qualified applicants to the program.
  • All admission decisions are final.
