Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Overview

The PhD in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Program is a research-oriented program of study, designed to provide students with a thorough knowledge of the field and strong research skills. Offered only on a full-time basis, students normally fulfill a two-year residency requirement that enables their full participation in the activities associated with the program.

Teaching Opportunities for PhD Graduates

The majority of PhD graduates from the Centre have entered the academic field at Canadian universities from the University of Victoria in British Columbia to Memorial University in Newfoundland, including University of Alberta, University of Saskatchewan, Queen's University and Université de Montréal. Our graduates have also taught in the United States, at Cornell, Case Western Reserve, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, San Diego State, and abroad, at the London School of Economics, the University of Wellington in New Zealand, and the University of West Indies in Jamaica.

Guaranteed Funding
U of T was the first Canadian university to offer doctoral students a guaranteed level of financial support. Currently PhD students receive a minimum of $15,000 plus tuition fees.
