Enrolment Information

Students applying to the program will select a stream (Humanities, Social Science, Sciences) at the time of their application based on the fit with their other chosen program(s) (e.g., students majoring in ecology and evolutionary biology will select the IRW sciences stream). Students in all streams complete the same foundational courses in IRW (e.g., introduction to work and organizations, organizational behaviour, business ethics, communications, organizational governance, and design), but select electives develop students’ understanding of work and organizations in stream-specific contexts.

Students may only complete one stream in the Work and Organizations Major, and cannot be simultaneously be enrolled in and/or complete the IRHR major/specialist program.  No exceptions will be made.

If you have completed your prerequisite courses during the Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 sessions, you should apply to the IRW during the second request period. IRW is a new program and we will be admitting students during the second round of enrolment this year.  Future enrolment rounds will be available in the first request period round only.

    Important dates:

    • Apply from July 9, 2022 – August 23, 2022
    • Check results between August 23, 2022 – September 7, 2022
    • Enrol by September 21, 2022
    • Requests for course exceptions must be received by August 1, 2022;  see program requirements for details.
If you expect to complete your prerequisite courses during the Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 sessions, you should apply to the IRW program during the first request period in spring 2023.  IMPORTANT:  There will not be a second request period.  The enrolment dates for 2023 will be made available sometime in Feb 2023.  Check this link in the new year:  https://sidneysmithcommons.artsci.utoronto.ca/program/apply-for-programs/

Please note that some of the courses listed are 1.0 credit courses; if one of these courses is completed for enrolment in the program, only 0.5 credit will count toward the completion requirements of the Work and Organizations Major.

If students have not taken a course from this list, they can request approval from the unit to consider other relevant courses for admission.  Such a course must have been taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science, UTM, UTSC or awarded as transfer credit.  The request must be emailed to irhr@utoronto.ca no later than August 1, 2022.   Students must provide their name, student number, which stream they are applying to, and relevant course details.  Late requests cannot be accommodated.
