2011 Winner of the Morley Gunderson Prize in Industrial Relations

Mike Pedersen

In his current role, Mike Pedersen is responsible for TD Bank Group’s global wealth management businesses as well as the bank’s direct channels (online, phone, ATMs) and corporate shared services (IT, real estate, strategic sourcing, corporate security, and the project management office). He also champions the bank’s environmental agenda.

Mike is past chairman of the Canadian Bankers Association and has a long history of involvement with charitable organizations. He co-chairs the Greening Greater Toronto Task Force and is on the Board of the Toronto City Summit Alliance and the Toronto Region Research Alliance. He also chairs the financial services sector campaign for the United Way, and sits on the Advisory Committee of the Greening Canada Fund. He was a recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 award.

Prior to joining TD in July 2007, Mike worked in London, England, where he was responsible for Barclay’s global private bank and two other international businesses.

Before joining Barclays, Mike spent twelve years in a number of executive capacities at CIBC, including Senior Executive Vice President. It was during this time that he was instrumental in establishing the CIBC Chair in Youth Employment held jointly by the Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources, and Woodsworth College. He was also involved in the creation of the CIBC Scholarship in Youth Employment which has supported students with financial need for more than a decade.

Mike received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia and obtained his Masters of Industrial Relations from the University of Toronto in 1988.
