University Transfer Students

The following information applies to students transferring from another university to the Faculty of Arts and Science, St. George Campus, University of Toronto. If you are a UTM/UTSC degree student transferring to the Faculty of Arts and Science (St George Campus) please click here.

Admission to the Industrial Relations and Human Resources Program
Students interested in transferring from another university must first apply for admission the Faculty of Arts and Science (St. George Campus, Social Sciences stream) and identify Employment Relations  as their preferred program of study. Admission to a specific program, such as Industrial Relations and Human Resources, is processed as part of the transfer student’s application to the Faculty of Arts and Science.

For admission to the IRHR major program, transfer students require an overall cumulative grade point average of 2.5. Transfer students must also have been granted a minimum of four full transfer credits including an introductory micro and macro economics course and a full credit introductory course in sociology (or 2 introductory half credits in sociology and psychology). 

For admission to the IRHR specialist program, transfer students require an overall cumulative grade point average of 2.8. Transfer students must also have been granted a minimum of four full transfer credits including an introductory micro and macro economics course  (ECO100Y equivalent with a minimum 67% or 80% in the ECO105Y equivalent) and a full credit introductory course in sociology (or 2 introductory half credits in sociology and psychology).

Note to Community College applicants: 
If you have completed a two-year academic diploma, you may receive up to two full credits towards an arts, science, commerce/management degree. If you have completed a three-year academic diploma, you may receive up to five full credits towards an arts, science, commerce/management degree. Students who are granted two full credits are not eligible to request admission to the IRHR program. You may apply to the program once you have completed at least four full credits in the Faculty of Arts and Science and meet the published program admission requirements.

Transfer Credits
Transfer credits are assessed by the Faculty of Arts and Science. Instructions about the transfer credit assessment will be included with the offer of admission. The Faculty of Arts and Science will admit students to the ER  program provided he/she meets the minimum requirements listed above.

Previous University Studies:
If you already hold a university degree, or have completed more than two years of university-level study at another university, you may only apply for degree studies in a different field. For instance, if you completed a degree in, or have majored in Economics, Management, Commerce or Business, you cannot apply for a Commerce or Management degree.  If you are admitted to a different program, you will be considered for a maximum of five transfer credits (one full year) from your previous studies.

**Students admitted to the Faculty of Arts and Science as a “non-degree” or “visiting student” do not have access to  restricted Employment Relations courses.**

I’ve been admitted to the Faculty of Arts and Science, what happens now?
Successful applicants are admitted to a program area in the Faculty of Arts and Science (i.e. Arts, Humanities and Social Science) NOT a specific program such as IRHR. Admission to a specific program is determined by the Faculty of Arts and Science once transfer credits have been assessed, and will depend on whether or not program prerequisites and grade requirements have been met.  The instructions for requesting transfer credits will be included with your offer of admission.  You are strongly advised to submit your transfer credit request as soon as possible.  Your transfer credit assessment letter will inform you of the transfer credits to which you are entitled, and the outcome of your request for enrolment in the IRHR program.

If you have already received your transfer credit assessment letter, but did not request admission to the IRHR program, please submit an email (along with copy of your transfer credit assessment letter) to the Program Office.  You are advised to do this as soon as possible and no later than June 30th.  However, if your transfer credits are still being assessed you may contact the Transfer Credit office directly and request admission to the IRHR program.

Transfer Credits for Newly Admitted Students
Transfer credits are assessed by the Faculty of Arts and Science.  It is important to submit your request for transfer credits as soon as possible after receiving the offer of admission. If you have any questions regarding transfer credits (assessment, equivalencies, maximums etc.) please visit the the Transfer Credit site directly.

College Affiliation
Every Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto St. George student is a member of one of seven colleges. You must indicate your college preferences when you apply. Selecting a college is a personal decision unrelated to program choice. Important Notes about Program and Degree Requirements
All transfer students who are granted a minimum of 4 full transfer credits have to enrol in the appropriate combination of programs for their degree studies:  2 majors or 1 major and 2 minors or 1 specialist.  Please review the Degree and Program Requirements listed in the Calendar.  If you have any questions or need assistance selecting the appropriate subject post combinations, please contact your college registrar’s office.
